No Spend July: Week 4 Update

Dress c/o Aria Rose – cutest maxi ever & perfect for summer! Special thanks to my girl Lauren for sending me this <3 [show_shopthepost_widget id="3668196"] Happy Wednesday y’all! Another no-spend July on the blog today and I can’t believe we’re one week out from the end of July. Where does the time go?! As I mentioned on IG stories yesterday, I felt like I was doing so well last week that I went a little rogue over the weekend. I hadn’t had a solid weekend in the city for awhile and I feel like I took advantage. I’m also trying to cut out beer which means vodka/sodas and that’s about a solid $4-$6 difference right there. The struggle y’all. Another factor this week was that I had #billz to pay like my internet. I paid my electric bill last week which was a lot more than I anticipated, that’s probably the worst part about living alone; no one to split it with and no one to tell you that you should penny pinch and not leave the AC on! As I near the end of the month I think the biggest key learning is that it’s not that hard to not spend money on unnecessary things like placing a clothing order every time you get a paycheck or avoiding public transportation like the plague OR spending $10 on a salad when you could make the exact same one for a whole week for $12. There are ways here and there to save without quitting cold turkey, which is never what I intended to do. Since I had such a great response to this series I have an exciting partnership in the works to apply this past month to my everyday throughout the remainder of summer and into fall, which I’m super pumped about. More on that to come! IMG_7455

Another thing I’ve been trying really hard to do is put all of my income from my blog into my business savings account – which I’ve been pretty good about this month (and not touching it for that matter). Usually when some of my payments trickle in they go straight to my PayPal which is connected to my Juno/Lyft account, so I typically leave the funds there and act like it’s credit towards rides. Dumb, right? I’ve watched my savings significantly increase over the last few weeks just by telling myself I can’t touch it.

I’ve also been more conscious about what I’ve been wearing and what I haven’t! I’m going to do a giant purge and sell a few items as well as donate, and I’ve been looking through some of my nicer items to sell to resale shops here in NYC. Being proactive here people! Would you be interested in an IG sale? I’ve always tossed around this idea but it seems like a ton of work for the ROI, but we shall see!

Key learnings: I justified a lot of my spending this week because I had been doing so well up until Thursday. What I’m realizing is how hard exactly it is to be cautious of your spending when you go out, particularly when drinking with friends is involved. My friends and I typically go round-for-round or match up later, but this is going to be a struggle I’ll need to work to figure out since the social aspect is a big part of my weekends and sometimes week days.
