Happy Tuesday y’all! Today is an exciting day because I’m kicking off my Holiday Gift Guides with one of my favorites: Gifts for the New York lover. I wanted to combine this with my recent six month mark that I hit over the weekend in the city, and while I was online shopping yesterday I found so many New York accessories that are perfect for anyone with a soft spot for the Big Apple. From coffee table books to subtle accessories, there’s so many options for that person on your list who loves the city. With that being said I wanted to share five things that I’ve learned from living in New York City for six months with this gift guide. What do y’all think? Have a great day and thanks for reading!

1. New York teaches you to celebrate everything. This is one of my favorite aspects of the city; everything is a celebration. Someone is always getting a new job, hitting a big milestone or needing to celebrate something and the city is the perfect place to do that. I celebrate every month mark I hit, every new milestone in followings or just anything I feel like celebrating in general. It makes the time in the city more fun and eventful.

2. Take advantage of every situation your dealt. This goes so many ways, if you do something wrong at work then learn from it. If there’s an artist you like at a club on a Monday then go. You only regret 100% of the shots you don’t take, or something like that, so I’ve found that the city almost encourages you to take advantage of everything life has to offer.

3. The weather app is your best friend. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked outside with a lightweight jacket on and it was 30 degrees out, or how many times I leave the apartment wearing white without an umbrella and it torrential downpours on me. The weather app is a hardcore must for anyone visiting or living in the city.

4. Learn to unplug. This is something so hard for me. Everyone in the city is constantly on their phones checking social media or work emails, and it’s so important to learn when to step away from it all and enjoy the moment you’re in. One of my favorite parts on the weekends is honestly when my phone dies because I don’t have to worry about posting things or checking social media, and I enjoy my time so much more.

5. Working and blogging is hard. I can’t explain how tired I am every day and how hard it is to find the motivation to do things like clean my apartment, take my trash out and do laundry let alone sit down and answer all of my emails, plan out posts, or wake up at 5:00AM to shoot content. When weekends hit I always want to enjoy my time with friends and go out, not thing about taking flat lays or mirror selfies. It’s a tough balance that most people don’t realize, but it’s definitely helped me learn on both ends of working and blogging spectrum what I’m willing to sacrifice to make them both work.
