Happy Thursday y’all and happy new year! With the new year kicking off, another (short) week at work after a long break, and time to get back into the new year groove and set those goals for the year ahead, I wanted to take a look back at some of my favorite items from 2018. First up: my top 5 makeup items I used in 2018. Prior to working in beauty, I used to be such a stickler with my everyday beauty routines. Now that I work in beauty everyday I’ve been more open to testing out different items, switching up my makeup looks and watching for beauty trends.
I always get a good laugh looking at pictures now compared to college pictures just seeing how much my beauty routine has changed. Back in college, I wouldn’t even pick up an eyeshadow palette for normal day to day unless I was doing a black/grey smokey eye – yikes! A trend I found that I liked most this year was eyeshadow palettes mixed with red, purple and brown pigments. I also think these do wonders for green eyes!
Another big change in 2018? I opted for eyelash extensions, which I absolutely love! While they are a pricier upkeep (about $70-95 per fill), I find them well worth it because I’ve ditched the heavy cat eye eyeliner I always did, and have started to wear less eye makeup for a more natural appeal. They also help you look more awake on those Mondays where NFL Sundays got the best of you, wink wink. I go to Lash Tough (the 43rd street is my favorite location), and no, this isn’t sponsored/free service in exchange for promotion. It took my eyes a few rounds to get used to the glue because they were super sensitive, but well worth it!
I’m rounding up my favorites below that I’ve found to be tried and true to my routine! Do you have any makeup favorites from 2018? Share them with me! Have a great day and thanks for reading!
1. Tartelette Toasted Palette by Taste Cosmetics. A palette that has been my favorite for years, there are so many combinations I use this palette for! I love to use the lighter shades for everyday, and mix the shimmery shades for a night out. I use this palette absolutely every single time I wear makeup, it’s such a good one!
2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. This was a crowd favorite in the beauty world this year and I completely understand why. It’s super pigmented and has the perfect shades to blend with the Toasted palette. I mix the two deep red shades to make a smokey eye, as well as line my bottom lash line when I’m trying to get a little bit of a sassier look for a night out. The light shimmer shades are perfect for highlighting below your brow.
3. Bare Minerals Blemish Rescue Skin Clearing Anti-Redness Mattifying Primer. I did a campaign with Bare Minerals for their Blemish Rescue line earlier in 2018, and I immediately fell in love with this primer. I like to think of it as more of a serum. It’s tinted light green to help cover redness, and I must say my skin has remained clear with minimal breakouts since I’ve started using it! I wear it by itself if I don’t feel like putting on all of my face makeup. Definitely a must!
4. Neutrogena Revitalizing Tinted Lip Balm. My lips are always chapped, so this tinted lip balm with a hint of shimmer has been key to keep in my bag for every occasion. I can layer it over lipstick once it gets chapped or wear it on its own – a win win!
5. NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer. For nights/days I want to look on point, I add this NYX primer over my Bare Minerals primer. This primer works to make your skin look more smooth than any other primer I’ve ever used, and I even use it under my eyeshadow to make sure nothing smudges!
