Happy February 12th y’all and a big ‘ol stinking HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, if I do say so myself. I’ve always been a huge birthday gal, but something about having your birthday in the middle of the week can be such a damper. It really hasn’t felt like my birthday yet and we’ve had our gals getaway to Miami planned for two months! Nonetheless, we have a big day planned with a celebration at work, followed by a dinner with my girlfriends after work at a cute West Village spot, topped off with some good old fashioned sing alongs at duplex (aka my tradition for the last two years, can’t beat it!).
It’s been awhile since I did a bit of a personal post, and I figured there was no better time than my 25th birthday to bring one back around. So here we have it, today I’m sharing 25 things that I’ve learned in my 25 years of life. Granted, this is more so from the last couple of years or so but still! Anyone else have any key piece of advice they’ve learned and care to share?!
1. Life is a hell of a lot more fun when you learn to celebrate any and every thing.
2. You’ll be a lot happier if you learn to view the glass as half full instead of half empty.
3. There’s nothing a quick call with your mom can’t fix.
4. If you want something, you have to ask. If you don’t ask, you’ll never get it!
5. Karma is absolutely the world’s biggest bitch.
6. You find out who your lifelong friends are in you early twenties.
7. Spend your money on moments: travel the world, take a red eye to Spain for a week, moments people!
8. Get too rowdy on a Tuesday, stay in on a Friday, use every moment you can to make a new memory.
9. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so send that text that may not get a response or message someone first on a dating app. Get out there!
10. I would much rather have three really good friends that know me inside and out, than a huge group that knows the bare minimum about me.
11. Don’t become complacent, but there’s nothing wrong with becoming content.
12. The more positivity you put out there, the more positive things happen to you.
13. Learning to stand up for yourself is the greatest advice I could give, no one else is doing it for ya!
14. Never settle for anything, or anyone.
15. There’s nothing wrong with being alone or single, whether it’s enjoying time by yourself or finding out what your next big step is.
16. Music is good for the soul, but concerts are something everyone should try to get to once every three months or so.
17. People come and go in our lives, but your family is who will be there for good with that unconditional clause they never signed up for.
18. Everything is good in moderation; junk food, alcohol, partying, boys.
19. The minute you find your work life balance the better.
20. Give hugs, get hugs. Hugs make the heart happy.
21. Teach your Nana to text. Not much makes me happier than sending my Nana a selfie in the middle of the day.
22. Once you find your tribe, hold onto them. Good friends are difficult to find, but harder to keep in the long haul.
23. Remember during the low times that He has a bigger plan for you. I don’t talk about religion a lot, but in the last two years I’ve had to tell myself repeatedly that He has a purpose for me and to trust in the unknown.
24. You can guide your path to an extent, but you can’t force everything to turn out the way you planned when you were 5, and that’s okay!
25. It’s okay to be 25 years old and not have life figured out just yet!! I remember being on my dance team and seeing all of the girls go off to college and thinking “wow they’re adults, they’re so old.” News flash! I’m turning 25, am incredibly single, incredibly fun, and I don’t know what’s next for me and I’m okay and terrified by it. I have the best friends anyone could ask for, a family who still accepts me in all aspects, a job that’s growing more each day, more stories than could fill an evening by the campfire and another trip around the sun under my belt! I’d say that’s the biggest accomplishment here.
I hope your day is as good as I plan to make mine! What do y’all think? Have a great day and thanks for reading!
