Ally Resources

With everything going on in the world recently, and particularly on social media this past weekend, I feel like I can speak for a few people when I say we’re kicking this week off with a heavy heart. I’m 26 years old and cannot even begin to wrap my head around all that is going on in the world today and all that needs to happen ASAP for a better tomorrow. My friends sent me a few articles linking to videos of the damage in New York from riots and looting and I just froze. My heart HURTS and I can’t imagine how that must be for people of color experiencing trials every day.

I’ve been doing a lot of research both personally and for work on places to donate to and resources available to educate ourselves because that’s the first step towards making a change. Today I wanted to round up what I’ve found and seen. My post won’t change the world, but if it can be of help to just one person it will have made a small step towards the right direction.

Ways to get involved:

First & foremost, educate yourself. I’ll be the first to say that I’m not well versed to even begin a conversation here, let alone lead it. Use this time to better yourself so that one day you can aid in educating someone else whether it be a friend or family member. The next two images share where to start.

Donate. I’m not saying to donate every dime in your bank account from the last pay check, but say you’re at the grocery store and you skip the treats or bottle of wine and put those funds towards a charitable donation, you are making a difference. I’ve read that a few organizations are overwhelmed with the influx of donations right now, so I’ve listed a few accepting below.

•Black Lives Matter HERE
•Black Visions Collective HERE
•NAACP Legal Defense Fund HERE
•ACLU HERE
•Reclaim the Block HERE
•Campaign Zero HERE
•Color of Change HERE
•Equal Justice Initiative HERE

Speak up. When you hear someone saying something or if you see something on social media. All it takes is one voice to start. If you have a place on social media where you can voice your stance, then do so.

To me, it doesn’t feel right to post on social media as normal right now. While part of my job is to share sales and beauty products with y’all, there’s not much sense in pushing a moisturizer when the world as we know it is literally in flames. Feel free to reach out to me personally with any questions and I’ll be back soon. Stay safe out there y’all and thanks for reading xo.
